The Lagrange Prize was established to provide international recognition to individual mathematicians who have made an exceptional contribution to applied mathematics throughout their careers.
The prize was created on the initiative of the Sociedad Española de Matemática Aplicada (SEMA), the Società Italiana di Matematica applicata e industriale (SIMAI) and the Société de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles (SMAI), and was first awarded in 1999. It is presently funded by the Sociedade Brasileira de Matemática Aplicada e Computacional (SBMAC), SEMA, SIMAI and SMAI.
At present the prize winner will receive an honorarium of 5000 USD, will not pay the registration fee to the congress, and will have travel and living expenses covered by the organizers.
